Enjoy an original cruise on the Perfume River.
Along the way, you’ll observe the daily activities of the local people living on the riverbanks and admire the beautiful natural scenery. Boarding takes place at the old Bao Vinh wharf, located in the outskirts of Hue. Bao Vinh was a busy port in the 17th century. In recent years, concern has been raised over the destruction of ancient houses replaced by modern buildings. Thanks to the support of the Pas-de-Calais Regional Council (France), five houses over 200 years old have been restored.
Continue your journey with a cycling trip to Sinh village, famous for its traditional Vietnamese folk painters and artists. Visit the home of Mr. Phuoc, an artist with 60 years of experience.
Then head to Thanh Tien village, well known for its traditional paper flower making workshops.
Return to the boat and continue the cruise to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda (Heavenly Lady Pagoda), dating back to 1601, built during the reign of Lord Nguyen Hoang on the banks of the Perfume River. The pagoda is easily recognizable from afar by its octagonal tower.
Continue the boat trip to Thuy Bieu village, located between the city center and the tombs of the Nguyen emperors. This ancient village is famous for its grapefruit gardens, whose fruits were once offered to the royal family.
As the cradle of Hue’s culture, Thuy Bieu is an ancient village now developing eco-tourism. It contains many century-old houses hidden among fruit trees, especially grapefruit trees, all covered in lush greenery. The typical garden houses of Hue help preserve the traditional customs, culture, and architecture of the Nguyen dynasty.
During the walk, several stops are planned: at an old temple dedicated to the village’s guardian spirit, at the local school, and in the home of a family that owns one of the three oldest houses in the village. These buildings feature exquisite wooden carvings and sculptures — dragons, phoenixes, and natural motifs adorning columns, beams, and rafters.
Continue your bike ride along the Perfume River, through lush nature, flowers, and thousands of grapefruit trees. Return by bike to your host family.
Take part in preparing lunch together with the family, featuring typical dishes such as fig salad and lemongrass duck.
After lunch, relax with a traditional herbal foot massage.
Return to Hue city by boat or bicycle.
